The goal of the program, now in its third year, is to get students to initiate and contribute to a series of HIV and AIDS activities, and to serve as leaders on their campuses. CRS guides the students through the course of the program by offering workshops and leadership training. Students meet other advocates from around the country and hear from people directly affected by the disease. After almost five months of being a 'college leader' and planning various activities, Sherrie still looks forward to sharing her newfound knowledge with her fellow students. "This opportunity is one that will have effects that permeate many communities, giving young people the tools to educate," she says. "And as in many cases, I believe education is the key to begin fighting problems like AIDS."
