Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration, which is located in Manipal (Karnataka), came into existence in the year of 1986. It is managed and run by Dr. TMA Pai Foundation with the collaboration of Welcomgroup, the hotel division of ITC Ltd, and a progressive hotel chain combined with Starwood Company of USA.



Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration (WGSHA) Manipal has been affiliated to prestigious Manipal University and its training and development has been recognized by the International Hotel Association, Paris. The educational institute has gained accreditation from National Board of Accreditation (NBA).

According to ‘The Week’ magazine, WGSHA Manipal has been ranked amongst top two management institutes in the country. To keep track on that ranking, the institute imparts under graduate and post graduate level programmes in the field of hotel management. Bachelor in Hotel Management (BHM)

Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration Manipal conducts under graduate level programme in the hotel management - Bachelor in Hotel Management (BHM). The institute conducts this UG course for the four-year full time duration. After completion of second year, candidates will have the option of joining the integrated MBA course.

The BHM programme of the institute covers varied specializations of hotel management, such as Food & Beverage Service, Food & Beverage Production, Hotel Housekeeping, Front Office Management, Business Communication, Hygiene & Sanitation, Computer Application, Computer Practical, Hotel Operation Projects, Hotel Economics, Physical & Recreational training, Physical & Recreational training and many more.

The eligibility criterion for this programme is required to have passed Higher Secondary Certificate Examination (10+2) or its equivalent, from any recognized state/national Board. The qualifying examination needs to have cleared by the candidates with not less than 50% marks in aggregate.

Admissions of the candidates to this Bachelor in Hotel Management (BHM) programme are done on the basis of Manipal University Online Entrance Test (MU-OET). It is a two hours and thirty minutes duration test, which consists of numeracy, conceptual, general English, general awareness and case study. The successful candidates will have to appear in group discussion and personal interview to finalize their admission to this programme.

Master of Science (M Sc) in Hospitality Tourism Management

The Master of Science (M Sc) in Hospitality Tourism Management is provided by the Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration for the two-year full time duration, which is divided into four semesters. The post graduate programme is conducted in these areas of hotel management:

Tourism Policy & Planning, Hospitality Management Information Systems, Global Tourism, Environmental Resource Management, Strategic Hospitality and Tourism Management, International Hospitality & Tourism Marketing, Entrepreneurship – Small and Business Properties / Enterprises, Hospitality and Tourism Dynamics, Contemporary Issues in International Hospitality & Tourism Industry, Research Methodology, Mini Project (Small Business Management Project), Managerial Communication and many more.

Aspirants, who have passed Bachelor in Hotel Management (BHM) or B Sc in Hospitality Management, are eligible to apply for this programme. The under graduation programmes should have passed by the candidates with minimum of 50% marks in aggregate, from any recognized Indian and international University.

The candidates will be short listed on the merit basis determined by the marks obtained by them in the qualifying examination.

Master of Science (M Sc) in Dietetics and Applied Nutrition

The Master of Science (M Sc) in Dietetics and Applied Nutrition programme of the Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration Manipal is conducted for the two years full time duration. Six months of internship training is mandatory while pursing this post graduate programme.

Applied nutrition, book keeping and accounting, applied physiology, advanced nutrition, food microbiology and food safety, dietetics, community field project, hospital organization, research methodology and many more.

Candidates will have to pass three years of bachelor’s level examination in Home Science / Nutrition / Dietetics; Food science; Biology; Microbiology; Clinical Biochemistry, Life Sciences with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in aggregate, from any recognized University.            

The selection of the candidates to this post graduate level programme is totally done on the basis of marks obtained by the candidates in the qualifying examination, which is above mentioned.

Diploma in Hotel Management Catering Technology

Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration (WGSHA) Manipal also provides diploma level programme in the field of hotel management - Diploma in Hotel Management Catering Technology. It is a three year full time programme. However, aspirants are eligible to continue in Sheffield Hallam University, UK, for one year to get a BSc (Hons.) in International Hospitality Management.

The diploma level programme consists of fields like Food & Beverage Production, Food & Beverage Service, Front Office Management, Business Communication, Computer Application, Computer Practical, Hotel Economics, Physical & Recreational training, Engineering & Environment Management System, Experiential Projects and many more.
