In August of 1991, Berners-Lee posted a summary of the World Wide Web’s features and capabilities on the alt.hypertext newsgroup. The World Wide Web was officially marketed as a public service that was available through the Internet.
In September of 1991, Paul Kunz visited the company and was impressed with the World Wide Web. He brought the software back with him, and a librarian adapted the World Wide Web for the operating system on IBM’s mainframe. It was used to display a catalogue of documents. This was the first time the World Wide Web was used in North America, and it was the first time it was used outside of Europe.
